Reverie was founded with the dual aims of reducing suffering around death, and becoming friends with your own death as a way to deeply embrace life.
We work closely with Madeira's international community — the expats and internationals who have made this island home, and who face an unfamiliar system when it comes to death, dying and loss here. Leila helps translate that system into something clear, human and manageable.
Our approach to death and loss is holistic and interdisciplinary. We gather and analyse data where we can - through clinical trials and aggregate reports - to support our work, but always defer to the lived experience of the conscious human. Considering we cannot know what, if anything, lies beyond, we hold this heavy subject with the lightest of touches. We do not advocate a specific doctrine on death and are open to working with all religious views and philosophies, if they encourage a life well lived.
Leila founded Madeira's first Death Café in Funchal, and believes this island has an extraordinary heritage as the ancient Greeks’ heaven of the blessed. She runs Madeira Mysteries walking tours sharing Madeira’s hidden mythological past.
