End-of-life doulas ease the passage into and away from life as we know it. With formal training and support from accredited organisations, we can help you prepare yourself or your loved one for death consciously. This includes preparing yourself emotionally, physically and mentally, as well as ensuring practical preparations are made so grief is not too complicated by administration.
For many in Madeira's international community, the practical side of dying here is unfamiliar — at the exact moment you have the least capacity to deal with it. A few things worth knowing:
The most common, affordable option — typically from €2,000.
The most expensive route, with plans reaching €10,000 — and often covering only cremated remains.
Requires a “mortal remains certificate” from Portugal’s Public Prosecutor’s Office before any repatriation can proceed.
Range €2,000–€4,000, but often exclude the plot, headstone or full repatriation — easy to under-buy.
This is exactly what we help you navigate — turning a confusing legal process into a guided, human one.
Including but not limited to: funeral and burial planning, help understanding wills, lasting power of attorney, Advance Directives, Living Wills and DNACPRs (with signposting to legal professionals where needed), planning your digital legacy and coordinating dying at home. We can help with scheduling and collaborating with carers and clinicians, and support friends and family with the role of executor.
Contact usWe can help you map out your preferences as you approach end of life, including home-care, medical care and palliative care. We can guide you and connect you with clinicians and complementary therapies that may help with comfort and wellbeing. We can advocate for you in medical settings and work with clinicians to make sure your wishes are prioritised, and offer a judgement-free space to talk through your thoughts and questions about end-of-life choices.
Contact usDying is natural. However, it can be a difficult concept to come to terms with. We offer compassionate accompaniment and reflective conversation, life review support and help planning your legacy (for example memory books, letters or video messages). We can also help prepare loved ones for their next chapter, and hold a safe and calm space for you to process everything you need.
